Getting a cat often seems like a big decision. If you are going to raise a pet, starting with a cat seems like a good idea for a number of different reasons. First of all, you should know that cats are relatively easy to care for.
Unlike dogs, cats don’t require a lot of attention; you don’t have to spend your day running after them, and you don’t have to worry about taking your feline friends out on a walk daily.
More importantly, cats are generally quite clean animals. They like to groom themselves and won’t defecate outside of their litter if they are trained properly. If you need a pet, going with a cat is an excellent choice. But, with so many varieties to choose from, how do you figure out the best one? The Siamese cat is a strong contender for a variety of reasons. Let’s talk about them.
The Siamese Cat
The Siamese cat is available in a bunch of different coats and colors, but the cat is unique because of the brown patch on its face and its searing blue eyes. If you are going to buy a Siamese cat, it’s important for you to make sure that you go with a kitten.
A full-sized Siamese cat might find it hard to adjust in your house in the beginning, and if you don’t have much experience, this could become a problem.
If you go with a kitten, it will have plenty of time to bond with you. The bond that you build with your cat is definitely something special, because the Siamese cat is renowned for its loyalty. These cats are considered sacred and special in Thailand, where it originated from. They were known to guard the temples of the olden gods in the region of Siam.
Remember, young kittens are generally fully white, and it takes roughly a year for them to develop their color properly. If you have just brought a Siamese cat home, it is important for you to start off by getting it vaccinated and making sure that the paperwork is set. However, there are several other things that you should know about these cats.
They Crave Attention
The Siamese cat loves attention from its owners. You need to understand that the cat will come to you from time to time with a play toy, and expect you to play with it. If you ignore the cat again and again, it will realize that you are not interested, and this is going to hurt your bond with the animal.
That’s not something that you want, so it’s important that you take out time from your day and spend it with the cat. Siamese cats love attention from their owners, and they are going to do funny things in the hope of making you laugh. As mentioned above, these cats are incredibly loyal, and as long as you show them the same level of love and affection, you don’t have to worry at all.
Are Siamese cats good pets? Yes, absolutely! These cats are very different from other breeds, and you will begin to realize the difference very soon, especially if you have kept other cats in your house. Unlike most others that tend to ignore their owners, the Siamese cat likes to nuzzle and cuddle with them!
They Are Vocal
You might have noticed that most of the cat breeds aren’t very vocal. There are only a handful of breeds that tend to voice out their concerns. The Siamese, though, has to be on the top of that list. The Siamese cat is incredibly vocal, and you will realize that it tends to meow throughout the course of the day.
If you are looking for a cat that is going to sit on your couch throughout the course of the day and not do anything, the Siamese might not be a good idea for you. However, if you want an adventurous cat that is going to go along with you and partake in all fun things with you, the Siamese cat might be right up your alley.
Most people don’t understand why a Siamese cat is quite vocal, but it has to do with genetics. They meow at the same frequency of a human baby (they have figured out that this gets the most attention), and as a result of that, you can expect your cat to be expressing itself throughout the house.
They Will Follow You Around
Another thing that you should know about these cats is that they tend to follow their owners around. As mentioned above, these cats are incredibly loving and affection animals. They are going to walk with you wherever you go and will just want to keep you in front of them. Don’t expect the cat to jump around on you every time; it will just stay at a distance.
Siamese cats love their owners very much and it’s one of the main reasons why so many people compare Siamese cats with dogs. In fact, this might come as a surprise to most people, but the Siamese cat also likes to lick its owners from time to time. It’s just a way for the animal to express its love for you.
You should understand that by following you all around the house, the cat is also trying to send you a message. It wants you to know that you shouldn’t ignore the animal. If you ignore the animal for a longer period of time, you should know that there is a chance that it may lash out at you too.
They Want Entertainment
Again, you need to understand that these cats love attention from their owners. Furthermore, they need a lot of mental stimulation as well, so you have to make sure that you buy different kinds of toys for the cat as well. It might be a wise move to invest in some wall perches and shelves and place them up, along with a scratching post as well.
These cats use the shelves and perches to keep themselves entertained and putting up a scratching post will ensure that the cat doesn’t sharpen its claws on your furniture. You don’t want your beautiful couch ruined because the cat decided to use it as a scratch pad!
It might be a wise idea on your part to let your cat mix outside for a while as well. Letting it run about isn’t a problem, especially because Siamese cats have an acute sense of direction and are able to return back home when they are done. Make sure you do not completely lock the cat indoors, as that could be harmful for the animal.
All in all, the Siamese cat will reward you for the love and affection that you give it. It’s a fantastic breed for you to choose, but you will have to be willing to put in the work and care for the cat too!
